A Jaipuri Dohar is a traditional, lightweight quilt from Jaipur, Rajasthan (India), known for its breathable comfort and beautiful hand-block prints.
Key Features
1. Multi-layer Cotton Construction
A Jaipuri dohar typically has three layers:
- Two outer layers of soft mulmul/muslin cotton
- One inner layer of flannel or cotton voile that adds mild warmth
This construction makes it ideal for mild winters, air-conditioned rooms, and summer nights.
2. Hand Block Printing
Most Jaipuri dohars are crafted using traditional wooden block printing techniques, featuring motifs such as ethnic paisleys, florals, vines, Mughal-inspired patterns and even contemproary designs. We use pastel colors for classy look and vibrant colors for more creative look.
3. Lightweight & Breathable
Unlike heavy quilts, dohars are airy and light, making them perfect for hot and humid climates. They regulate temperature effectively without trapping excess heat.
4. Soft on Skin
Mulmul fabric is known for its buttery softness, making Jaipuri dohars gentle and comfortable for babies, children, and adults.
5. Reversible Designs
Both sides often feature coordinated prints, offering two distinct looks in one dohar.
What Is It Used For?
- Daily bedding in summer or humid climates
- AC comforter in homes and hotels
- Baby blankets due to their softness
